The review is devoted to original results obtained by analysis of the physico- chemical properties of soot particles produced at the cruise combustion conditions of a modern aircraft engine. The experimental studies of the soot formation, hygroscopicity and ice nucleation ability are reported. The potential of soot aerosols to act as cloud condensation nuclei in the aircraft plume and as ice nuclei in the upper troposphere is estimated. The comparison results are suggested for laboratory surrogates assuming for atmospheric studies. The global predictions of aviation emission upon atmosphere are discussed.
