Annual meeting of the leaders of the scientific groups involved into the International project IMPEx - Integrated Medium for Planetary Exploration took place at SINP MSU. IMPEx is based on the database on the magentic fields and plasma in the magentospheres of the Solar system's planets compiled by means of operated on-orbit spacecrafts and the results of computer simulation. Four scientific groups (from Russia - consisting of the SINP scientists, Austria, Finland and France) participate in the IMPEx project.
This meeting was the third in succession and the first took place in Russia. During the meeting the leaders of the scientific groups have discussed the current status of the IMPEx project and the burning items of its realization.
The leader of the Russian scientific group, the Head of the SINP Laboratory of the planets' magnetospheres, DSc. Igor Alekseev reported that research conducted by his group goes to plan: "Due to the IMPEx project paraboloid model of Mercury's magnetosphere is included into the American database SPASE, which up to now have operated only with experimental results. Then we have implemented possibility for obtaining of the calculation results for Mercury paraboloid model by means of so-called web-services via Internet. In the near future we'll provide this possibility for Saturn and Jupiter. Dynamical model of the Earth's magnetosphere is also put into operation. It is planned that paraboloid model of the Mercury's magnetic field and finnish hybrid model for calculation of the plasma parameters will produce a mixed model with wider possibilities. We'll continue active research in this direction after the COSPAR Scientific Assembly."
If the project is successfully finished, free access to the integrated medium for the exploration of the Solar system planets will be open
through the IMPEx in 2015.
